WHY MCL ?

Whatever you do in life, your career opportunities will be significantly improved if you obtain a degree, diploma or professional qualification. Further and Higher education is about realising your potential. At MCL you will have the opportunity to study a diverse range of subjects to a high level, develop skills and knowledge and continue your career and personal ambitions with a world class qualification.
‘World Capital’ of the 21st century At MCL you will be based in the heart of London, a modern, vibrant, innovative and inspiring city.

London is increasingly recognised as the world capital of the 21st century, whose financial, educational, cultural and social benefits towers its competitors. According to the influential New York magazine (2007) “If Paris was the capital of the 19th century and New York of the 20th century, London is shaping up to be the capital of the 21st century.”

Benefits of Studying in London

London, as the capital of the UK, is one of the top destinations for national and international students. It has more to offer international students compared to other countries.

• An International Student Community –
In choosing London as your place of study, you will form part of an extensive community of international students from all corners of the world with whom you will live, study and learn from. The rich mixture of culture and experience gained from this will contribute to the enjoyment of your learning experience from which you can confidently follow your personal life plan.

• World Class Internationally Recognised Qualifications –
Degrees and qualifications awarded by UK higher education institutions and professional bodies are internationally recognised as being of the highest quality and world class. Standards of excellence are set, followed and encouraged and these are vital qualities as selling points in gaining future employment.

• Comparably Lower Education Costs –
For international students, the cost of education in the UK is comparably lower than in the USA and other countries. You can save money as your degree course will normally take less time to complete in the UK compared to other countries. UK degrees are usually of 3 years duration, although some are longer. Masters degrees are of 1 or 2 years duration. This can lead to considerable cost savings. Shorter courses also mean students can realise their earning potential sooner than their counterparts elsewhere.

• Part-time Work Opportunities –
London is the economic heart of the UK offering diverse work opportunities for students. As an international student, in accordance with present immigration rules for students studying in the UK on student visas, you will be allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during college term time and full-time during vacations.

• A Multi-ethnic City –
Wherever you come from around the world, London’s rich, vibrant and colourful ethnic mix means you are never far from opportunities to meet, enjoy the food, and enjoy cultural events of communities who hail from your country of origin. London need not be a distant and cold city. It can be your home from home.

• Student Oriented Benefits –

  • An 18+ Student Oyster photocard entitles the holder to buy student-rate Travelcards and Bus Pass season tickets valid for 7 days, one month or longer periods of up to one year, which cost 30 per cent less than adult-rate season tickets.
  • Credit can also be added to an 18+ Student Oyster photocard to pay adult rate Oyster single fares, which are cheaper than paying cash.
  • Single, daily, 3 Day tickets and Oyster single fares are not available at student-rate. If you live near your education establishment or only make a few journeys you can get a normal Oyster card and pay as you go at adult-rate. These are available online or from Tube stations, London Overground stations, Oyster Ticket Stops or London Travel Information Centres and some National Rail stations.
  • The student discount is available for a full-time student enrolled on a full-time course, consisting of 15 or more tuition led and/or structured learning hours a week over a period of at least 14 weeks, or enrolled on a part-time higher education course - studying for a degree - and be in receipt of a fee grant, course grant or be receiving help from the Access to Learning Fund, as defined in the document DFES extract. Normal students on a part time course will not qualify and should not apply for the discount.
You may apply either using a paper application form that will need to be checked or through the TfL Online Application system if the college is on the system at www.tfl.gov.uk/photocards (enter the college name). The application will still need to be verified by the college but will mean that the card will be with you a lot faster.

The range of experiences, opportunities and benefits available to international students can make living and studying in the UK more affordable and a top educational destination.
