Accommodation Advice

The College can arrange, on request, accommodation for its students. Initially, the college can reserve accommodation with a host family within reasonable travelling distance. For accommodation to be arranged by the college, students must let the College have the following at least four weeks before accommodation is required: A complete accommodation reservation form with one month's rent deposit.

The College can arrange accommodation for students. Students must let the college have the following option information at least four weeks before accommodation is required:
  • Shared room & shared facilities (£50/week).
  • Single room with shared facilities (£80/week).
  • One bedroom flat (£110/week).
Other expenses (cleaning charges, utility bills etc.) approximately £40 - £50/week may be added to the above rates.
Student requiring accommodation services has to deposit one month’s rent to the college in advance. Deposit is refundable, when the student leaves the accommodation.
A student may, however, stay with friends or relatives or rent somewhere to live in. At present the average price of renting a room in a shared house in this area is £70 - 80 per week. The students may also have to pay something extra towards electricity, gas, phone bills etc. Most private landlords will ask for one month's rent in advance and may also ask for a month's deposit to cover any damages.
Students will need money to survive on a daily basis. They will need to have warm clothing in the winter, buy food and toiletries, pay for transport, and any extras. An average guide to living cost would be a minimum of £40 - 50 weekly.

Photocopying and Printing Facilities:

Students may avail themselves of the photocopying facilities provided by the College at nominal charge. Students are permitted to print necessary documents and study materials free up to 200 pages per year. But additional pages are also allowed to be printed by a nominal charge.

Students encountering any difficulties in obtaining medical care must consult the college authority immediately.

Library Facilities:

The College Library stocks books recommended on the Departmental book lists. Students are allowed to use the library whenever they wish to study. The Whitechapel Library is only a few steps away from the College and students can apply for membership to use all the facilities; also for nearby British, City of London and other important material collections. Queen Mary library is however the easy reach of the college. . But college’s own library provides all texts, further readings and up to date editions of all basic books. We also provide academic journals for advanced research in relevant field. Students can borrow two text books at a time for one week.

Research Support and Student Society:

Fresher in MCL students will find themselves in a dedicated students society .The society is based on commitment for knowledge, friendship and community spirit which always proved itself beneficial to its members. The members have their own programmes to support their aim. MCL stands always beside its students by all possible means. Mooting, debating, site seeing, industrial visit and court visits are regular features of student’s society. Drama, recitation, music, indoor games are regularly organised by the society. MCL’s annual study tour is one of the attractive events. Yearly publication reflects round the year activities of both society and MCL. Essay writing competition, subject based research, public speaking and other cultural events are organised by the society. So MCL life makes difference to the students.
