Aimed at:
This course involves an in-depth understanding and a clear awareness of current technologies such as cryptography, computer security and fraud detection. It also includes the study of how security can be managed.
Entry Requirements:
(Pre-registration with the University of London external system is required)
In order to be eligible to register for the MSc degree, an applicant must have obtained:
• a BSc degree of the University of London or any other UK University with at least Second Class Honours or
• an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.

Course Structure:
Every year consists of two terms and one extra term dedicated to project work. Each term consists of three modules.
The four core modules are as follows:
• Security Management
• An Introduction to Cryptography and Security Mechanisms
• Network Security
• Computer Security
The optional modules may be chosen from the following (minimum two modules):
• Secure Electronic Commerce and other Applications
• Standards and Evaluation Criteria
• Advanced Cryptography
• Database Security
• Information Crime
• Smart Cards/Tokens Security and Applications
• The Masters programme includes a project which is compulsory. The project has to be completed by the
third term. Lectures and tuition will be provided on the subject matter of the project chosen by the student.
Method of Assessment:
Written examination and project dissertation.
Progression:
On completion of the MSc students may pursue further postgraduate studies for an MPhil or PhD. Alternatively pursue a career in IT.
